The Kindergarten Success Indicator (KSI)

Kindergarten students vary widely in their level of attainment and early learning skills and strong foundations begin with understanding. 

The Kindergarten Success Indicator (KSI) is a measure of academic achievement in kindergarten which helps educators evaluate whether students’ accomplishments are positioning them for success in first grade.

The norm-referenced KSI is based on the 50-year foundation of the School Readiness Test and includes nine subtests that cover key competencies in the areas of Reading, Mathematics, and Language. The assessment may be administered to individuals or small groups and be given at the end of kindergarten or beginning of first grade.

• Evaluate academic achievement in kindergarten
• Identify individuals and skills which may still be developing

Features and Content

• Provides a comprehensive view of each student’s academic and developmental progress
• Includes chart to record observational notes about emotional, behavioral and motor skills
• Offers a Parent/Teacher Report to give results to families and suggest concepts to target at home

Scores Available

• Norm-based performance ratings of “Developing,” “On-Track,” or “Advanced” for each subtest and major subject area
• A national percentile rank is provided for the three subject areas and total score for the test
  

Test Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes

Level: end of kindergarten or beginning of first grade
