No Child Left Behind Act of 2001

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110) was signed into law on January 8, 2002 and reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

The NCLB act incorporates the following strategies and principles:

increased accountability for states, school districts, and schools

greater choice for parents and students
more flexibility for states and local educational agencies (LEAS) in the use of Federal education dollars
a stronger emphasis on reading

Please use this site provided by Scholastic Testing Service, Inc. for information on the NCLB legislation and its impact on students and schools. This site will focus primarily on sections of the law related to assessment of student achievement. Assessment now plays an important central role in NCLB, as never seen before.
